Bonalu Mahotsavam

About the Event

Bonalu is the official State Festival of Telangana and is dedicated to Goddess Mahakali. The festival is celebrated as an expression of gratitude and devotion to the Mother Goddess for protecting devotees and fulfilling their wishes. Women carry decorated pots called “Bonam” containing cooked rice, jaggery, milk, and neem leaves to offer at temples.

The festival features colorful processions, traditional folk dances, drum performances, Pothuraju processions, and special temple rituals. Bonalu has deep cultural roots in Telangana and is one of the most vibrant celebrations in the region.
